Spring 2023 NFS Newsletter

Dear friends and colleagues,

April 2023 allowed us another wonderful and successful week at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. We were able to do multiple cases, including a challenging 2 level open revision lumbar fusion and a L5-S1 level MIS TLIF. We practiced camera based tubular spine surgery with a MIS C6-7 cervical foraminotomy and L4-5 lumbar MIS laminectomy. For the first time in Nepal, we were able to treat a compression fracture patient with Kyphoplasty with the help of the neuro IR team. The patient was able to walk for the first time in over 2 months!

We had a great day of lectures, celebrated with the team at the rooftop of the Shambala Hotel, and met wonderful new colleagues from Virginia Tech Neurosurgery.

Tate Miller and Colby Street offered incredible support from the Medtronic team. They worked hard every day to make sure we had everything we needed to take care of the patients. We could not have pulled off this work without them.

As always, we were all made to feel like family! Looking forward to the next adventure!

NESON & SANC Honor Bestowed Upon Dr. Wohns

Richard Wohns, MD, JD, MBA, has been invited to attend the 2023 8th South Asian Neurosurgical Congress (SANC), September 7-9, 2023 in Kathmandu, Nepal. He will be honored with a membership to the Nepalese Society of Neurosurgeons (NESON) because of his contribution to Neurosurgical Academics in Nepal. This meeting welcomes neurosurgeons from around the world. Congratulations, Dr. Wohns!
